Child, 7, and woman hit by vehicle near Horace Mann Elementary: CHP

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., (KGET) — A 7-year-old boy and a woman were hit by a vehicle Monday near Horace Mann Elementary School the boy suffering major injuries, according to California Highway Patrol.

They were hit around 8 a.m. at Niles Street and Catalpa way as they walked north across Niles within a marked crosswalk, officers said. The driver of a Ford Explorer didn’t see them and made a left turn from Catalpa Way onto Niles, hitting them, according to CHP.

The woman suffered minor injuries. Both she and the boy were taken to Kern Medical.

Alcohol or drugs are not a factor, officers said.

The CHP incident page earlier reported the child was 5, but a news release sent hours later said the boy is 7.
