BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department held a virtual town hall Tuesday regarding street racing.

The event involved a discussion about the issues surrounding street racing, ongoing enforcement efforts and also addressed community questions and concerns. They also discussed legislation introduced by Assemblyman Vince Fong to expand penalties for street racing-related driving behaviors.

“Any type of sideshow demonstration, burning out the tires, revving engines, performance stunts and other activities, it would have the same penalties imposed as street racing,” Captain Levi Miller said. “It would allow for judges to suspend licenses for up to six months.”

Assembly Bill 3 is set to be heard by the State Senate Appropriations Committee within the next few weeks.
