BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The discovery of what turned out to be a replica grenade prompted a bomb squad response Monday in Kernville.

A bomb squad unit was called out to the Sportsman’s bar at around 2:45 p.m. in Kernville for a possible explosive device, sheriff’s officials said.

A Kern County Sheriff’s bomb squad unit was sent to the bar on Kernville and Blue roads. Deputies evacuated an area of 100 yards around the bar, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

According to officials, a person found what looked like a hand grenade while cleaning a storage shed belonging to a business.

Officials determined the hand grenade was a replica and contained no explosives or hazardous materials. It is unknown how long the replica grenade had been stored in the shed.

The fake grenade was seized by the KCSO Bomb Squad.
