UPDATE: Death of man found in south Bakersfield canal was an accident, KCSO says

UPDATE (Jan. 13): The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has ruled Montoya’s death as an accident. His cause of death was drowning.

UPDATE: KCSO has identified the body as 31-year-old Armando Montoya Jr. His cause of death is still under investigation.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A body of a man was found Friday afternoon in a canal in south Bakersfield, police said.

Officers were flagged down around 2 p.m. in the area of Panama Lane and South H Street and were told a body was in the canal, according to police.

The body has been removed and an investigation is ongoing.
