UPDATE: Man struck and killed by vehicle in Northwest Bakersfield identified

UPDATE (Nov. 20): The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified Durwood Henry Swartz, 85, as the man struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday evening.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield police said a man believed to be in his 80s was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday evening in Northwest Bakersfield.

Police said the collision happened at Coffee Road and Granite Falls Drive at around 6:45 p.m.

Police said the man was outside the crosswalk when he was struck. The man suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, but police continue to investigate.

The man’s identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
