Bakersfield College drum corps heading to international championship

They’re marching to a new tune.

The Golden Empire Drum and Bugle corps at Bakersfield College is headed to a very prestigious stage.

For the first time ever, the corps is headed to the Drum corps International World Championships in Indianapolis – Marching Music’s Major League.

“We’re very very excited about being able to go to championships this year.  Going to finals was our five year plans and so this is our fifth year in existence so to be at that moment where we’re doing final preparations and actually getting ready to travel out and compete is totally exciting,” said Tim Heasley, Director of Marching Arts at Bakersfield College.

For Aaron Aragon, the Head Drum Major and Conductor of the Field, it’s five years of hard work that is now paying off.

“It’s been such a long journey to get to where we are today.  I’m so excited to become one of the first people of Golden Empire, one of the first people of the BC Marching Arts program to go to World Championships,” said Aaron Aragon.

DCI World Championships will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Aug. 11, 2018.
