UPDATE (1/11): The boy killed in the crash was identified by family as 13-year-old Nicolas Brenden Peterson.
His grandmother, Vikki Peterson, released the following statement on behalf of the family:
“Words are hard to put together and make sense of this loss,” the statement reads in part. “No one ever said life was going to be easy but no one was prepared for the cruel loss of our grandson, Nic, yesterday. God’s promise is to be with us during these moments and it’s only because He is that we’ll travel through this time together and move forward.
“Nic was special. Sooo smart and quick witted. He was loving and kind. Our white-haired handsome boy. His mischievous smile and contagious giggle will be what I remember most.”
She said the family thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A juvenile was killed and a man was seriously injured in a motorcycle collision in northwest Bakersfield this afternoon.
The Bakersfield Police Department said just before 1 p.m., officers were sent to the intersection of Coffee and Hageman roads after receiving a call about a collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle. When they arrived, officers found a man and a juvenile lying in the roadway.
The department said the juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was taken to Kern Medical for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The SUV was attempting a left turn in front of the westbound motorcycle when the collision occurred, according to BPD. The driver was not injured and cooperated with officers at the scene, according to the department.
