BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One person has died in a crash on South Edison Road Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred at about 12:58 p.m. on South Edison and Muller Roads, east of Weedpatch Highway, according to CHP. The crash victim was a back seat passenger who was not wearing a seatbelt in a Ford Escape that was driving westbound on Muller Road towards South Edison Road.

The other vehicle involved in the crash was a heavy-duty tow truck that was driving southbound on South Edison Road at about 55 miles per hour nearing the intersection at Muller Road. At that time, the Ford stopped at the stop sign then immediately entered the intersection directly into the path of the tow truck. The tow truck was unable to stop in time and hit the Ford on the right passenger side.

The driver of the Ford was taken to Kern Medical with major injuries. The passenger of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tow truck was not injured.

CHP does not suspect alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
