BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man suffered severe injuries in a crash Thursday evening after a possibly distracted semi truck driver rear-ended his vehicle on Highway 58.
According to CHP’s Traffic Incident Information Page, the collision was reported at 5:50 p.m. involving two semi trucks in westbound lanes near the Chester Avenue offramp. Officers found the third vehicle — a white Nissan — pinned underneath one of the semi trucks. Emergency crews needed a crane to lift the trailer and pull the driver out from underneath. The driver suffered severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
CHP Sgt. James Nabors said investigators are looking into whether or not the driver of the yellow semi-truck was using a cellphone at the time of the crash.
