(KGET/KKEY) — Don Modesto López Bautista was born on January 17, 1909 in Oaxaca, Mexico. We met him last year when he turned 110 years old.

His family is already planning the celebration for his 112th birthday.

He is one of the oldest, if not the oldest person in Kern County.

Amidst the pandemic, Don Modesto continues to live each day to the fullest.

Many things have changed in everyone’s life, so we checked on Don Modesto and found him a little more tired, but as happy and lucid as we did last year, and under the same loving family care.

“We were worried about him because of his age, we don’t know if the virus will him hard if he gets sick”, says his grandson Hector Hernandez.

Covid-19 has hit very hard among Latinos, especially the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.

But in Don Modesto’s case his grandson says he has no health problems:

“My mom has taken him to the doctor, health-wise he is really good”.

So what has Don Modesto been doing during the quarantine? He’s been busy, traveling to his native Oaxaca, enjoying time with his younger siblings, and dozens of other family members. He also attends celebrations and spends time with friends. But also visiting his church, something very important for him.

Keeping the family united.

What is this father, grand-father, great-grandfather, and great-great- grand-father’s wish for his 112th birthday?

He says he prays for many more years alive to continue enjoying life with his family.
