When Nicholai Christensen was born, doctors told his mother Elisa he wasn’t producing platelets, making his blood incapable of clotting.
Because of the donations from six donors, baby Nicholai was able to go home a happy, healthy baby.
Inspired by the kindness of those six strangers, Elisa eventually got over her fear of needles to pay it forward. She now donates every two weeks, saying her needle phobia is long gone knowing all the good it does.
Nicholai is now 13 years old, and Elisa is encouraging others to donate, and save lives like those of her son.
If you would like to donate, we’re teaming up with Houchin Community Blood Bank for a community-wide blood drive June 6. Donors will be entered to win some great prizes, from weekly $100 giveaways to a grand prize Disney vacation. The drive is happening outside our studios at 21st and L streets from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m.
