A local man is celebrating 110 years of life.
Modesto Lopez Bautista moved from Mexico to Bakersfield in 2001 when his daughter brought him to live with her.
Lopez Bautista turned 110 on Jan. 17.
His birth certificate says he was born in 1909 in San Juan Mixtepec — a small town in Oaxaca, Mexico.
He didn’t go to school because he had to work taking care of farm animals and other duties to help out his family.
Lopez never learned to read or write. The only language he speaks is an indigenous dialect of Mixteco.
He said his faith in Jesus Christ is what has allowed him to live, healthy and happy life.
