Local grape grower identified as Delano shooting victim

Sgt. Stephen Wells with Kern County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the victim in yesterday’s shooting and crash in Delano was 84-year-old Jakov Dulcich, of Sunlight International Sales.

According to its website, Jakov is the founder of Sunlight International Sales. The family established Sunlight in 1996 out of Delano, where they produce and ship table grapes internationally.

Dulcich was shot while traveling south on Browning Road Wednesday around 8:30 a.m. His car then collided with another car in the shoulder near Woollomes Avenue. The suspect vehicle continued to the location of the collision and became involved in a physical altercation with the driver of the second vehicle, according to KCSO. During that altercation, at least one round was fired by the suspect but there were no injuries. The suspects fled the scene, KCSO says.

At this time, the investigation in ongoing. The suspect has been described as a male in his early 20s.
