Local grape grower expects to lay off over 500 workers

Vincent B. Zaninovich & Sons, Inc. sent out two letters notifying the county they will be laying off more than 500 workers in its table grape operations in Tulare and Kern counties.  

In compliance with the Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act and Callifornia Labor Code, Vincent B. Zaninovich & Sons, Inc. are required to inform the county of such changes.

Zaninovich & Sons is expecting the changes to affect a total of 542 employees, with 379 of those employees being field laborer positions, according to the letters dated March 4, 2019. 

Zaninovich & Sons is expecting to lay off 511 workers in the table grape operations and 31 office jobs at the company. 

Seniority will not play a role in who and who will not be laid off and lay offs will start on or after May 4, 2019, according to the letters.
