A local family that needed help to get treatment for their little girl has raised enough money to make the trip to New York.
Alondra Arredondo was diagnosed with mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, but there is no cure for this rare disease.
The illness gradually attacks her gastrointestinal system and lungs.
Arredondo’s mother, Dolores, was thankful for the community’s help.
“A lot of good people out there. I was very surprised, very blessed,” she said.
The two will travel to New York on July 1 to seek treatment with an experimental drug.
Teachers and church parishoners helped donate the funds they needed to get there.
Dolores’s previous boss even donated a dress for her quinceanera on Saturday.
