A lawsuit has been filed against the city and the Bakersfield Police Department accusing the department of excessive force and civil rights violations.
The lawsuit was filed Friday in U.S. District Court.
The lawsuit stems from a case of mistaken identity that led to a 19 year old being attacked by a K9.
The lawsuit follows an incident in June when police stopped Tatyana Hargrove because they thought she matched the description of a suspect they were searching for.
Police say Hargrove resisted before the police K9 was released and she was eventually arrested.
Hargrove was originally charged with five misdemeanors in relation to the case but those charges were later dropped.
