Local heroes handed out hundreds of baskets to families in need today.
Bakersfield police and Kern County sheriff’s deputies handed out 500 baskets or boxes packed with food.
The food included turkey, potatoes, onions, fruits, canned goods and chips and sodas.
KCSO also provides families with a new and unwrapped Christmas gift.
“People get to see law enforcement in a different light. A lot of them think about us as the ‘bad guys’ because we are taking care of the bad guys on the street, but this way, now we can show them that there’s another side — a humanitarian side,” chairman of the Christmas basket program Stan Moe said.
“We get a chance to give back to the community and show the positive side of what law enforcement does as well.”
This was 34th year this project was held and the donations were made by business owners in Kern County.
