Lamont Chamber of Commerce president Jose Gonzalez has announced he will challenge incumbent County Supervisor David Couch for the fourth district supervisorial seat.
Gonzalez made the announcement Thursday morning.
He is joined in challenging Couch by Delano mayor Grace Vallejo, who was chosen in May to challenge the incumbent by a group of local Latino community leaders.
Lamont became part of the county’s fourth district after officials redrew boundary lines in March – creating two new majority-Latino districts – as the result of a federal judge ruling that the former map violated the Voting Rights Act.
Judge Dale A. Drozd ruled the former boundaries diluted the Latino vote by splitting up densely populated Latino areas.
Lamont was previously part of District 5, represented by Supervisor Leticia Perez.
