A Kern High School District teacher has been acquitted in a sexual misconduct case, accused of asking a student for sex.

A jury found Johnny Watson not guilty of a misdemeanor count of annoying a minor on Friday.

Last March, Watson was charged with a misdemeanor charge of annoying a minor.

In court documents, investigators said Watson texted a 17-year-old, asking her for sex.

He allegedly told the teen to keep the conversation secret so his career wouldn’t be affected.

Before being placed on administrative leave, Watson worked as a video production teacher at the KHSD Regional Occupational Center.

On Monday, the Kern High School District said Watson will remain on unpaid administrative leave until it completes and administrative review of the situation.
