National Police Week is next week and the Kern County community is invited to an annual salute to our fallen law enforcement.

A county-wide Peace Officer Memorial is set to take place, hosted by all local law enforcement agencies. Officers, deputies and responders will gather to remember those who have died protecting our community. The proceeding will include an honor guard, a 21-gun salute and a flyover, according to California Highway Patrol.

The event is next Thursday, May 17 at the Peace Officer Memorial in front of the Kern County courthouse located at 1415 Truxtun Ave. in Downtown Bakersfield.

Earlier that day, Bakersfield Police Department will hold a separate event for National Police Week. That event is happening at 7 a.m. at 1601 Truxtun Ave.
