Kern County Fire rescue crew talks about daring river rescue

News

The crew of Kern County Fire’s Helicopter 407 was needed to pull a man out of the Kern River Monday evening in a dramatic rescue aired live on 17 News at 5.

Officials said a man swimming upstream with his wife in the Kern River got too far out and was carried away down the river.

Thankfully, the man was able to perch himself on a rock until rescuers reached him at around 5:45 p.m.

The crew spoke with 17’s Tabatha Mills on 17 News at Sunrise Tuesday morning.
