It’s a social media rumor that just won’t die, and this time, it caught the attention of Hollywood.
Actor Titus Welliver, known for his roles on “Lost” and “Bosch,” shared a post to his 28,000 followers saying Kern County Animal Services is shutting down due to animal cruelty.
The problem is, the post is not true.
On its Facebook page, Kern County Animal Services reminded everyone that the rumor isn’t true and that the shelter will remain open.
Nearly five years ago in October, the shelter relocated from South Mount Vernon Avenue to its current location on Fruitvale Avenue. Around this time, each year, the rumored closing circulates social media.
Read Kern County Animal Service’s post below addressing the latest resurfacing of the unfounded rumor.
UPDATE: For his part, Welliver apologized for spreading the rumor of Kern County Animal Services closing.
My apologies for ringing the bell re: Kern County. I have done multiple fact checks and it’s a hoax. Not sure why someone would do this. Thank u all for such quick responses. Blessings!!!— TitusWelliver (@welliver_titus) September 24, 2018
