A foul stench and a phone call led to Kern County Animal Control responding to a Lebec home to seize dozens of animals.
A search warrant reveals an animal control officer wen to Rachelle Lapham’s home on North Drive in Lebec last week.
The officer says she knocked on the door and front window, but no one answered.
She says she heard someone hushing dogs that sounded distressed.
She says she also saw cages around back that reeked of feces and urine.
The officer got a search warrant and returned to seize 81 animals, including dogs, cats, rodents, rabbits.
Nick Cullen with Kern County Animal Control says Lapham was not arrested but that charges are pending.
