KCSO warns of phone scam

News

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community of a phone scam in which the caller claims to be a sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office.

The caller is requesting victims to remedy civil matters by paying a fine to avoid arrest.

The general basis for the calls involve an attempt to collect money, and it’s accomplished through the victim sending a check, money order or Green Dot card.

KCSO does not contact the public via telephone to pay fines.

Anyone who receives a call from an unknown person requesting money should research the matter prior to providing any funds or personal information.

If you receive suspicious telephone calls that you believe to be a scam, call KCSO at 861-3110.
