KCSO remains tight-lipped on details of officer-involved shooting

A man with a lengthy criminal history is behind bars, accused of nine felonies including resisting arrest causing injury.

John Paul Jones, 35, was booked hours after an officer-involved shooting in Oildale. A spokesman for the sheriff’s office would not confirm if Jones was involved in the shooting, saying no additional details were available.

A KCSO spokesman said Wednesday, deputies encountered a man with a loaded handgun during a compliance check. Authorities said some sort of confrontation took place and deputies shot the man. A deputy was injured but officials haven’t said how, or released details of his condition. The department has not released any more information since the night of the shooting.

Jones is accused of resisting a peace officer resulting in death or serious bodily injury, being a felon in illegal possesion of a loaded firearm and drug and gang charges. He is being held on $217,000 bail and is due in court Monday.
