An off-duty Kern County Sheriff’s sergeant witnessed a robbery occurring and stopped it with the help from a citizen.

Sergeant Dunbier was off-duty while driving on Verdugo Lane when he saw the store clerk of the Verdugo market fighting with a man outside the store trying to steal alcohol.

Dunbier decided to stop and assist the store clerk, he identified himself as a deputy and that is when a citizen also stepped in to help.

The suspect, Orlando Gracia, 23, ran from the scene while Dunbier and the citizen chased after him.

They were able to tackle Gracia and hold him until police arrived.

Gracia was booked for robbery and resisting an executive officer, he is due in court tomorrow afternoon.
