The Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputy who’s running for his boss’s job, says he’s got more than a few changes in mind.
Deputy Justin Fleeman celebrated the start of his campaign Wednesday at the Royal Palace in Bakersfield.
Fleeman says he hopes to restore public trust in law enforcement, and says he wants to cut down on a “lack of morals and ethics” in the sheriff’s office.
“You have to be involved and engaged with the department as a department head,” Fleeman said. “People look forward to your leadership and direction, and when you have a leader who is absentee and doesn’t meet with his troops on a regular basis, it’s hard for them to get behind him.”
Fleeman will run against Sheriff Donny Youngblood, who, weeks ago, told 17 news he plans to run for re-election.
