The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting where a deputy shot a dog that attacked a man in East Bakersfield.

Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the 2000 block of Valencia Drive Monday at about 3:30 p.m. During that call, a pitbull escaped from a nearby yard and attacked a man, biting him on the arm and leg.

A deputy used a taser to stop the attack, but had no effect on the dog. The deputy then fired a shot at the dog, stopping the attack, KCSO officials said Monday evening.

The man who was attacked was taken to Kern Medical for his wounds and is stable.

The dog survived, but was seized by Kern County Animal Control.

KCSO is investigating the incident.
