William Kidd slipped and fell on a wet floor at El Pollo Loco on Mt. Vernon Avenue in September 2012. His attorney Matthew Faulker said he sustained a major leg injury and serious brain injury, requiring surgery and causing permanent damage.

After a four week trial, a jury ruled in his favor last week, ordering WKS Restaurant Corporation to pay $16 million.

Faulkner said, “It’s going to give him his needed medical care for the future. It’s going to help support the family. They’ve been struggling this whole time under this. It will help them work together to keep him healthy. We’re very happy that the jury brought back justice for the Kidd family.”

Faulkner said the hazard was created by procedures put in place by the company. He said company policy required employees clean greasy grills after closing, but didn’t give them enough time to do so, forcing them to clean during business hours.

The company can appeal the decision. We reached out to the attorney representing WKS Restaurant Corporation, but did not heard back as of news time.
