Kern County’s unemployment rate continues to climb, according to January’s job report by the California Employment Development Department.
In January 2018, Kern County’s unemployment rate was at 9.2 percent with 35,100 considered unemployed. This is up from 8.6 percent in December, according to EDD.
The state’s unemployment rate is 4.4 percent, a record low from data dating back to 1976, officials said. California’s employers added 35,500 nonfarm payroll jobs in January.
This time last year, the state’s unemployment rate was 5.2 percent.
Overall, the U.S. unemployment rate was unchanged in January at 4.1 percent, while the nation’s employers added 200,000 nonfarm payroll jobs.
