Investigators find possible remains of murder victim while searching for woman missing since 2007

Detectives working on an old missing person’s case in Rosamond, may have found the remains of a Tehachapi murder victim instead.

On Monday, detectives searched an abandoned property on Joshua Tree Lane in Rosamond.

They got a tip that Michelle Chafin — missing since 2007 — was buried there.

Detectives found partial remains, but they believe the discovery is linked to the murder of Juan Carlos Perez.

Perez was killed in 2015.

Deputies responding to a homicide reports in California City were led on a high-speed chase that ended in Tehachapi. Parts of Perez’s body were found in the back of the truck they followed.

The driver, William Patterson, was not charged in Perez’s death.

He pleaded no contest to reckless evasion and possessing a firearm.

Meanwhile, deputies continue to search for Michelle Chafin.

She was reported missing in Bakersfield in 2007 and hasn’t been seen since.

If you have any information about Chafin’s whereabouts, you’re urged to call the sheriff’s office at 861-3110.
