Immigration judge grants $10K bond for undocumented Bakersfield College student

News

A undocumented Bakersfield College student detained since May, has been granted bond and could soon be released from the Mesa Verde Detention Center.

An immigration judge in San Francisco granted Jose Bello, $10,000 bond at a hearing Wednesday, Bello’s attorney said.

ICE agents arrested Bello on May 22. ICE officials said Bello was a local gang member with criminal convictions, violent in nature.

Bello’s attorney, Win Eaton, maintains Bello does not have a criminal record.

In June, Eaton told 17 News, an indictment from ICE says Bello is charged with entering the United States illegally.

The group Latinos Unidos Por Educacion have so far raised nearly $4,000 from a GoFundMe account for Bello’s legal fees.
