Update: Investigators say the race, gender, and age range of the human remains are still unknown. They hope an autopsy will provide some answers. They say it’s also unknown if the leg was severed from the body or if it broke off naturally due to decomposition.
Witnesses describe the leg as small and childlike. 17 News was sent a photo of the leg and we can say it was very dark in color, but likely due to decomposition.
Today a small group of volunteers from Search and Rescue gathered at Lake Webb. They say their mission was to establish the feasibility of a larger scale search of the lake.
They say there are currently no missing persons reports of anyone who went disappeared in the Kern Riber or any other local body of water.
Original Report: After getting dozens of calls to the newsroom all day, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that human remains were found in Lake Buena Vista today.
KCSO says around 9 am, a portion of a human leg washed up on the shore.
Homicide detectives collected the leg and conducted further investigation. KCSO says at this time, the identity and gender of the victim are unknown.
