If you have a love for reading, you have a chance to pay that love forward by helping out local second graders.

It’s part of the Kern County Superintendent of Schools annual Community Reading Project.

Volunteers need two hours of training and to commit to one hour, one day a week, for one semester.

Semesters run September to December and January to May.

Those interested in volunteering during the fall semester can choose between any of three training sessions: Saturday, Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, Sept. 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All trainings take place at City Centre, 1300 17th Street, room 1B, in downtown Bakersfield. No pre-registration is necessary.
