Help Kern County Museum, CALM celebrate museum birthdays

Two of Bakersfield’s beloved museums, The Kern County Museum and California Living Museum, are celebrating birthdays this weekend and the community is invited to attend.

  • California Living Museum 35th Birthday Bash
    • Saturday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • In celebration, kids 12 years old and under are FREE and must be accompanied by an adult.
    • Several animals will receive Birthday “cakes” made especially with them in mind.
    • At noon, Steve Martin’s Working Wildlife (featuring Jeff Lee) will make a return appearance with animals from around the globe.
    • Guests can conquer the Condor Challenge, a 32-foot Climbing Tower for FREE.
    • The train will be running and tickets are only $1 per person.
  • Kern County Museum 77th Birthday:
    • Sunday, May 20 from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
    • Those who attend can expect guided walking tours of Pioneer Village with curator Lori Wear, activities for kids, as well as a food vendor on site.
    • There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Bandstand in Pioneer Village. The exhibit is one of the most recognizable on the museum grounds and now has a new structure and paint for any occasion.
    • The cost of entry is the museum’s general admission pricing. $10 for adults, $5 for children, and FREE for KCM members.
