Happy Jacks opens one Sunday a month, donating to local Ronald McDonald House

News

It started as an idea — A plan to raise money for children at the Ronald McDonald house.

Four years ago, the owners of Happy Jacks Hamburger and Pie Shop, put that plan into motion.

The restaurant which is regularly closed on Sundays, began opening its doors every second Sunday of the month, donating 100 percent of the proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House in Bakersfield.

“Anytime I can motivate people to help someone else, it makes me feel good,” co-owner Ruben Rosales said. “It just makes us feel good that we can help someone else in need.”

Happy Jacks says it has gotten so big that they have to cut down the menu as it brings in nearly 250 customers and in three years they have raised over $60,000.

The restaurant is located at the corner of 20th and G streets.

It will be open Sunday, March 10, from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m.
