GoFundMe page set up for Delano couple killed in crash while fleeing ICE

Cecil Avenue fatal accident

A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family of a couple who died in a car crash in Delano while attempting to flee from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

As of Friday afternoon, more than $12,000 had been raised for the six children of Santo Hilario Garcia, 35, and Marcelina Garcia Profecto , 33. The husband and wife were in the country illegally.

The crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of West Cecil Avenue. ICE said agents stopped the couple because the man matched the description of a suspect. However, Garcia took off down Cecil Avenue and struck a power pole, according to the Delano Police Department. The SUV ended up flipping over, which killed the couple.

ICE later announced Garcia was not the man they were originally looking for.

Family members said the couple had been in the United States for 15 years and were farmworkers. They had six children ranging from 8 to 18 years of age.

Delano police continue to investigate the crash.
