GET not offering free rides during bad air days as anticipated

Funding never went into effect

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Community members are frustrated after learning a program that would provide free bus rides when air quality is bad, never went into effect.

17News has received several calls into our newsroom regarding Golden Empire Transit's 'Free Transit on Unhealthy Air Days' offer.

On May 31, GET sent a press release stating that a new program would offer free rides when the air quality exceeds 150.

GET never received the funding for the program, according to a spokesperson on Friday morning.

GET hopes to receive the $603,471 grant from Congestion Mitigation Air Quality by September, according to GET.
