The number of gang-related homicides in Bakersfield is on the rise compared to the last couple years, according to the latest memo from Bakersfield City Manager Alan Tandy.
From January through April, there were seven cases of gang-related homicides in Bakersfield, according to data from the Bakersfield Police Department Special Enforcement Unit. There were five in the same time period in 2017, and 2 in 2015.
Overall gang-related shootings were down this year at 16 compared to 17 last year and 26 in 2016, according to the report.
Felony gang-related arrests were also down, with 26 this year compared to 39 the same time last year.
