Gallery honoring fallen Kern heroes to open in Downtown Bakersfield

A new art gallery dedicated to some of Kern County’s fallen service members will soon open in Downtown Bakersfield.

It’s called Portrait of a Warrior and features portraits of 41 fallen heroes from Kern County, post 9/11.

Those behind the scenes have been working hard to get the gallery open by the end of the month, but they could use some help.

“This is going to be a gallery like none other,” Mark Sandall said.

“We’re getting close to opening in a couple weeks and the public is coming out and we still need sponsorships, but we have a lot of donors that are really getting this place looking beautiful.”

The gallery on Eye Street is also in need of carpet and some electrical work. They hope to get those things donated.

A GoFundMe page has been created with a goal of $15,000 to help the gallery get read for its opening.
