That means Perez, witnesses and lawyers are prohibited from talking about the case outside of court.

The order was issued Friday morning by Kern County Superior Court Judge Charles Brehmer at the request of Kern County District Attorney’s Office.

17News’ Danny Freeman is in court and will have a full report on 17 News at Noon and 5 p.m.

When asked why a gag order was necessary, Supervising Deputy District Attorney Michael Yraceburn told 17News, “because we needed to ensure the fairness of a jury pool and because statements being made could not be ethically responded to by the DA’s office.”
