Former sheriff Louis Alvin Loustalot dies

A former Kern County Sheriff has died.

The sheriff’s office confirmed Louis Alvin Loustalot died Wednesday, July 4. 

He was elected sheriff back in November 1974 as the first sheriff’s office career deputy to be elected to the post.

Everyone who knew him called him Al.

He was the nephew of former Sheriff John E. Loustalot.

Al Loustalot held the office for two terms until he retired in 1983.

Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, July 17 at Valley First Baptist Church on Fruitvale Avenue at 10 a.m. 

Services are open to the public.
