A former high school coach accused of committing sex acts with a teenager was arraigned in court today.

Keith Cash, who coached the girls basketball team at Ridgeview, Stockdale, and Bakersfield High Schools between 2011 and 2017, was charged on July 26 with oral copulation with a person younger than 16 and contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense.

Cash has not been employed by the Kern High School District for the past 10 months, and was primarily a walk-on coach, according to district officials.

Court documents obtained by 17News detail a phone call between Cash and one of his accusers last month. The accuser asked Cash if he loved her.

This was reportedly they had a sexual encounter while she was 14 and he was 23, according to the documents. Cash told the girl he wouldn’t have risked so much if he didn’t.

The report says days later, he denied the conversation ever happened during his police interview.

He is due back in court next month.
