Kern County’s longest-serving district attorney is coming back to the office.
The DA’s office confirmed Ed Jagels will be returning in a volunteer position to help newly sworn-in DA Cynthia Zimmer.
Jagel’s role will be to offer analysis on new laws the office should support.
He’ll also research how state laws have impacted crime rates in Kern County and advocate for reform in Sacramento.
Jagels gained a national reputation for being tough on crime, but with that came criticism that his attitude led to abuses and overturned cases.
