Foothill High boys basketball win 2019 State Championship

The Foothill Trojans boys basketball team made history by winning the 2019 CIF State Division V Championship in Sacramento at the Golden1Center, beating Mt. Shasta 78 – 66.

It was the team’s first state title since 1988, a championship 30 years in the making.

The Trojans led 38-33 at the half and came out strong in the second half, winning the 3rd quarter 22-13 to build the lead they never relinquished.

The Trojans finished the season with a record of 24-11.

“It was ironic that we celebrated the 30th anniversary, and it was like destiny for us to be able to win the state championship this year. So as much as it’s ours, it’s also yours,” said Coach Wesley Davis.

“It’s amazing just bringing it home for Bakersfield, for the 661. It’s not just for us, it’s for everyone. I love all these people, this is my family,” said senior player Edward “Squid” Davis.

Foothill High even hired two charter buses for students and teachers so they could be in Sacramento to support their team.
