Firefighters help raise money for Patten family affected by Camp Fire

News

Update: More than $5,000 raised for the Patten family!

The Camp Fire has hit so many families so hard with one of those families with ties to Kern County, so of course, our community stepped up to help.

Adam Patten and his family lost their home to the Camp Fire.

On Sunday, local firefighters washed cars and motorcycles at Bakersfield Harley-Davidson to raise money for them.

Adam’s dad, Ben Patten, is a familiar face in Bakersfield. Ben is active in the community with local vets and new recruits.

Adam says he can’t put into words just how much his family appreciates the support.

“I was just trying to keep my daughter calm, she was scared … Everybody was scared,” Adam Patten said. “It was moving so fast you don’t have time to think you just react and get out of there as fast as possible.”

Ben Patten said he’s accustomed to stepping up for vets when they need help, but it was new asking for help when it was his own son.

“This time the challenge was I needed money for a vet who just happens to look an awful lot like me,” Ben said.
