Firefighters battle flames at recycling facility

Firefighters battle hours-long recycling center fire

Firefighters spent four hours battling flames at a recycling center in Southeast Bakersfield Monday morning.

Smoke billowed from the Griffith Recycling Center on White Lane.

A generator and a 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel caught fire sending black smoke into the air.

Both county and city firefighters responded to the flames.

Bakersfield Fire Department Batallion Chief John Frando said it took four hours to get it under control.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
