Fire burned 50% of man’s body at a home in Northwest Bakersfield

One person is injured in a fire at a house in Northwest Bakersfield.

Kern County Fire Department , along with Bakersfield Police, responded to a residential fire alarm in the 13000 block of Michaelangelo Drive.

The call came in at 9:45 a.m., and was quickly upgraded to a structure fire, as witnesses say they saw a person on fire.

Kern County Fire says they found a man in the shower with 50% of his body burned with second and third degree burns.

KCFD says the man went into the shower to put the fire out.

According to Battalion Chief, Sean Fraley, the fire started in the back patio of the house, and did not extend to the interior of the home.

The victim was transported to the Memorial Burn Center.

Police and fire crews are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
