Court documents reveal new details in the case of a deadly New Year’s Day shooting in Delano.
Aurelio Perfecto was arrested Jan. 2 and pleaded not guilty to one felony count of carrying an unregistered loaded firearm.
His family member, Santos Perfecto was shot and killed during a New Year’s party on Fremont Street just after midnight.
Court documents reveal people at the party simply thought Santos Perfecto was drunk until he fell out of a lawn chair and they realized he had been shot.
Police say they recovered a black .38 revolver at the scene.
Initially, Aurelio Perfecto was also charged with murder but that count is under review.
At the time of the incident, Delano police released a statement saying “celebratory gunfire can not be ruled out as a possibility.”
Aurelio Perfecto is due back in court next week.
