DUI checkpoint set for Saturday night in Bakersfield

The Bakersfield Police Department plans to conduct a DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint Saturday at an undisclosed location within Bakersfield city limits.

The checkpoint will be held June 2 between 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, according to BPD.

Announcing DUI checkpoints in advance is a proven way to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the roadways by up to 20 percent, police said.

Anyone caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can expect punishment in the form of jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses potentially in excess of $10,000, according to BPD.

Police urge anyone who suspects an impaired driver on the roadways to call 911.
